Neil Ellman

Year After Year
(after the painting by Arshile Gorky)
here wherever here is
or not
where ostrich feathers lay out
to dry
kiwis to die
year after year
barbicels clinging
to the spires
of the old asylum
at the edge of tomorrow
//sing: hallelujah//
she said: antelope
he said: elephant
she said: rhinoceros
he said:
it is when where the ostrich lay
blue feathers and let them dry
she said: or not
